What is Purpose?

The question of purpose is a struggle for many people; in fact most people struggle one or more times during their life with this question. This is a good thing. When we seek answers, we receive answers. Everyone who seeks will find and the door is opened to everyone who knocks. "Keep on asking, and you will be given what you ask for. Keep on looking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened. For everyone who asks, receives." [Matt 7:7-8 NLT]

Many people believe that living a life of Divine purpose means giving up the fun and their own plans. Or they think it will be something they don't want. Or they think that their purpose is a certain job, or a profession, and they panic wondering if they're doing what they are supposed to be doing. Relax! At this moment you are exactly where you are supposed to be-based on your current level of predominant thought, awareness and knowing.

This wonderfully created Universe needs every skill and ability to turn the wheels of earth society. The jobs we do and the contributions we make are simply the vehicles of purpose for us. The ultimate purpose of our Divine purpose is the understanding and expression of Love, pure Agape Love, the Love that our Creator has for us. It is to learn to love ourselves and every other person on this earth in the purest sense, without the baggage of guilt and unforgiveness that chokes off our spiritual potential. It is to understand our Oneness with everything; it is to be compassionate and caring for all life. When we do this, we are perfectly aligned with our Divine purpose, and returning to the wholeness of who we are.

It is impossible not to be on Divine purpose, even if we don't recognize it or we purposefully try to avoid it. All roads lead to Rome. Some roads are shorter and easier than others, but they all return to Rome, to Home Base. We wouldn't be on this earth in this life if our Divine purpose didn't come with us. We are born with it imprinted in our spiritual DNA. A quote by James Russell Lowell says it perfectly, "No man is born into the world whose work is not born with him."

You will not be asked to be an accountant if your passion is animals, or a mathematician if your passion is theater. If you have the gift of great motherhood or fatherhood, your Holy mission may be to raise and teach new souls, preparing them for their Holy missions. If you are best serving humanity as an Opera singer, you will not be led to medical school. You are born with innate desires and talents specifically tailored for your work here and your Holy Committee will guide you step by step, without fail-but the clearest instructions will come when you specifically ask.

You weren't born into this life without the promise of Divine Instruction and Guidance. Some of us will settle into an occupation or career that fits immediately and we will be content with an inner knowing that we are where we belong. Others of us will go from career to career or job-to-job, with that same Knowing telling us we need to move on. Many others will find peace and solace in God's most important work, mothering and fathering the world's children, whether they are our own, or other's. Copyright, P. Kelley
